Matt Monroe creates large scale, site specific sculpture-based installations that playfully reference architecture, design, and sculpture. His most recent works investigate the notion of home as an emotional and geographic destination, specifically the potential that exists to define ourselves through household products.
Reconfiguring the language of established trade skills and materials related to residential furnishings and architecture, Matt creates objects that are at once familiar, and at the same time challenge expectation.
Matt received a BA in Political Science from Colorado College and after working in both construction and design, he received an MFA in sculpture from Cranbrook Academy of Art. He has also worked for NYC design firm BDDW fabricating high end home furniture, and for Peg-Perego where he designed toys and baby products at their Italian headquarters.
Matt has shown his work in New York, Detroit, Buffalo, New Mexico, Colorado, Chicago and Los Angeles.
